* WORKS IN LIQUID NITROGEN
* MUCH FASTER AND MORE ACCURATE THAN MANUAL INVENTORY CHECKS
* SAMPLE FINDER TO LOCATE LOST SAMPLES
* CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURE MAINTAINED DURING
INVENTORY CHECKS
* AUDIT BY LOCATION
* VARIANCE REPORTING OF AUDIT RESULTS
* INTEGRATES WITH EXISTING DATABASE INVENTORY
* INVENTORY AUDITS TAKE MINUTES RATHER THAN DAYS

CryoScan -
A breakthrough in Radio Frequency Identification of cryo-preserved samples (Patent Pending). Inventory management of cryo-preserved samples has long been a time consuming and labour intensive task for the IVF clinic. The increasing requirement for security, accuracy and safety has brought the burden of auditing to an unprecedented level. A team of scientists and technicians in the R&D facility at Research Instruments Ltd. have solved the problem. They have developed a remarkable new way to control your inventory - CryoScan.

What is RFID?
CryoScan works by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). A tiny microchip is attached to the sample before it is frozen or can be attached to existing frozen samples. This microchip holds a unique identification number. There are more than 281 thousand billion combinations, you can never get a misidentified sample. The RFID even works in liquid nitrogen so that with CryoScan it is not necessary to remove the sample from the cryo tank to read the label CryoScan knows exactly where it is.

Samples maintained at the cryogenic temperature until now every time a sample was removed from the liquid nitrogen it went through a temperature cycle. With CryoScan this is completely avoided because the sample remains submerged at all times.

How the system works
The inventory is kept on a database on the PC. This database can be linked to your existing information, or run independently. The PC communicates with the reader, which is inside a PDA (included with the system). The reader can be used to add new samples to the system, audit the contents of a location, or even search for a lost sample. Traditionally, finding a lost sample has been a very long and arduous process. However, samples should never be lost with CryoScan because the system makes an independent check that the sample has been placed correctly and warns the user when a mistake has been made.

What samples can I store?
Can I retrofit to my existing system? CryoScan is able to be used with all plastic sample storage vessels, including the CryoBio System from IMV. Furthermore, the CryoScan? system can be retrofitted to your existing system.
