MSc/Diploma in Clinical Embryology - Leeds, UK
2 years/16 months Part-time Distance-Learning Programme
The course was established in 2000, as the first web-based MSc degree course in Clinical Embryology. The course is currently in its seventh year. Students from 27 countries have attended the course so far. There is a student entry on the 1st October of every year.
The course aims to provide a standard for education in embryology and an internationally recognised qualification, which will contribute to uniformity of knowledge in the subject and practice of embryology. Course management committee and module teachers include Dr Helen Picton, Dr Kay Elder, Dr. David Miller, Dr John Huntriss and members of the Leeds Institute of Reproductive Medicine and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust Assisted Conception Units.
The course teaching faculty spans staff from the University of Leeds, Bourn Hall Clinic in Cambridge, The Bridge Fertility Clinic in London, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust Assisted Conception Units, University of Manchester, University of Southampton and the University of Sheffield.
Entry requirements
An honours degree in a biological or related science. Applicants with appropriate or accredited experience within an embryological laboratory will also be considered. Students must have access to email and the Internet as well as to a medical library or journals on-line. Further details on the course website.
Course Content
The course is delivered via distance learning modules by internet, post and electronic mail. Three residential workshops will be held over 2 years. Assessment will be split between assessed course work and formal examination, with Multiple Choice Questions, Short Answer Questions, Essays, and Case Studies.
The course will comprise the following compulsory modules:
- Fundamentals of Clinical Embryology
- IVF and Embryo Culture
- Micromanipulation
- Cryobiology and Cryopreservation
- Ethics and Law for Embryologists
- Research Project Proposal in Clinical Embryology
(for masters level)
Course Fees
The academic fee for the MSc in Clinical Embryology for both UK and overseas students is ?8550 (this is the total course fee for the 2 years). The academic fee for the Diploma is ?4550 for UK and overseas students plus ?1150 for the residential workshops. (Total cost of the Diploma is ?5700 for the 16 months). One full scholarship of UK ?8550 sponsored by GenX International and IVFonline is available to cover the academic fees for the MSc course.
