Question:
Hi does anyone have any information on off gassing culture dishes prior to setting up for IVF/ICSI? Is there a minimum time period necessary? I can't seem to find any literature o point me in the right direction. Thanks

"Different culture systems have to be gassesed experimenatlly. For Vitrolife 4 hours is enough without oil overlay.
We usually gas culture dishes minumun with oil 8 hours.

Off gassing dishes for IVF
Michael L. Reed said on 08 November 2009

"A good basic question - years back there were many papers on ethylene oxide residue and the need for off-gassing, but those days are essentially behind us.

Now we have irradiated plastics, sealed in plastic. And most of us would agree that you can smell the " -ene " gasses when you open a new pack of dishes. I have a few older references that might give recommendations, but I don't recall seeing that information - just general comments about airing the dishes out.

Do dishes ever stop off-gassing? We store them at room temperature, then heat them up. But in the incubator, there are scavengers that do help - water pans, oil overlay if used, filtration systems if used.

I don't have a good answer, sorry.

Here are a few older references -
