Patients across UK will get better access to IVF treatment under NHS

The recent announcement by the Public health Minister Dawn Primarlo is encouraging news for those infertile couples who did not previously get much help from the NHS. This latest move has considered the 2004 NICE guidelines on fertility treatment where it recommends three cycles for all eligible patients. Different areas for improvement that has been recognised are

1- A common standard approach across UK for selecting patients,

2- Guidance and help for failing Primary Care Trusts and

3- Further assistance to NHS trusts.

She also proposes to regulate charges for IVF treatment in the private sector. It can be seen as an achievement of the various active groups like Infertility Network UK, HFEA, British Fertility Society, RCOG and many other patient support groups across UK.
