Question:
what could be the possible reason for retained embryos after the transfer, we came across this event in few successive procedures which is othervise an extremely rare event in our IVF/ICSI-ET programme.

retained embryos

"Embryos can occasionally be retained in the catheter, when the transfer volume is inadvertently low. Presence of mucus and resistance during the procedure could also be other reasons.Due you use hamilton syringes for ET? New syringes have very tight plungers and could also be the reason for embryo retention."

Retained Embryos at ET

"Dear Alok,

Do you do U/S guided ET or a blind ET ? Is the person performing ET the same ? Is it that the embryos are retained at first attempt and then they go smoothly at next try ? Have you changed anything at your end recently such as - catheter, loading etc ? Anything else that is changed ?

I think you might have addressed all such things. Plz detail."
