Research Instruments gains FDA embryo biopsies, trophectoderm biopsies and blastocyst collapsing clearance for Saturn 5™ Laser System

Medical device company, Research Instruments (RI), announced today it has clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for an extension to the Intended Use for the Saturn 5™ Laser System.

The Saturn 5™ laser, the world’s first directional laser specifically designed for ART, is now approved for use for embryo biopsies, trophectoderm biopsies and blastocyst collapsing, in addition to assisted hatching (thinning and ablation).

David Lansdowne , Technical Director of Research Instruments said “The Saturn 5™ laser helps to significantly improve and speed up biopsying and assisted hatching methods.”

“The moveable Saturn™ laser’s Biopsy Mode allows accurate, precise and safe laser drilling.” he added.

The Saturn 5™ laser is the world’s most advanced laser and has been adopted by hundreds of clinics worldwide.

Samantha Knight, Lead Embryologist at London Fertility Centre, UK, who has been using the Saturn 5™ directional laser since 2012 said “We have been using the Saturn 5 Active™ laser system for assisted hatching, blastomere biopsy and blastocyst collapsing.”

“The moveable Saturn laser means I can ablate the zona exactly where I want to, without having to move the embryo, also the new biopsy mode allows me to accurately make holes in either straight or curved lines along the zona. “

She added “The laser system from RI makes the procedures quicker, easier and safer to perform than ever before. We love it!”
