Responsibilities
Semenology
· Perform routine semen analysis and test preparation (according to WHO guidelines)
· Preparation of fresh and cryopreserved sperm for intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF and ICSI procedures
· Preparation and processing of sample from retrogade ejaculation
· Preparation of fresh and cryopreserved sample from PESA, MESA and TESA for intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedure
· Cryopreservation and thawing of semen samples
· Antisperm antibody testing
· Management of sperm bank
· Management of sperm donor bank
· Consultations with patients regarding issues related to semenology
Embryology
· Identification and grading of oocytes (transvaginal and laparoscopic), culture of oocytes and insemination (IVF and ICSI)
· Embryo assessment, handling, culture and transfer (uterine and laparoscopic), up until day 3 transfer or blastocyst transfer (day 5 or 6)
· Cryopreservation and thawing of embryos
· Micromanipulation abilities in ICSI procedure, assisted hatching and embryo biopsy
· Management of oocytes and embryos donation
· Consultations with patients regarding issues related to embryology
General duties
· Laboratory and equipment maintenance including routine cleaning, washing, sterilizing, ordering supplies and waste disposal
· Ensuring the day-to-day running of the laboratory is in accordance with GLP guidelines, including purchasing, inventory, cataloguing, maintenance and use of equipments
· Cytotoxicity and pyrogen testing
· Participation in internal and external quality control schemes; complying to ISO 9001 quality assurance programme
· Maintenance of liquid nitrogen dewars and supplies
· Upkeep of up-to-date service records and proper filing of user manual
· To train, develop, and manage the personnel
· Participation in marketing programs through editorial write-ups, public education campaign or seminars, and attending conferences or exhibitions both locally and abroad
· To conduct patient educational sessions to help patients to understand issues pertaining to fertility and reproduction
· To counsel patients regarding the implications of treatment options to ensure correct information is given and relevant questions answered properly in order to assist them in making an informed decision
